Middle Georgia DSA's 10 Point Program
Our organization is the largest and most active activist organization in Central Georgia. Its broad tent approach and preeminence attracts many people to join us from a diverse set of political backgrounds.
This ten point program, inspired by the Black Panther Party's Ten Point Program, guides the chapter's decision making, and serves as a touchstone for our members to remain unified in our fight despite our differences.
1. We demand Democracy. We demand the power to determine the destiny of our working and oppressed communities.
We believe that working and oppressed people will not be free until we are able to determine our destinies in our own communities ourselves, by fully controlling all the institutions which exist in our communities. Both the government and corporations must be made democratically accountable to the will of the people for democracy to truly exist in America.
2. We demand completely free health care for all people.
We believe that the government must provide, free of charge, for the people, health facilities which will not only treat our illnesses, many of which have come about as a result of our oppression, but which will also develop preventative medical programs to guarantee our future survival. We believe that mass health education and research programs must be developed to give all working and oppressed people access to advanced scientific and medical information, so we may provide ourselves with proper medical attention and care.
3. We demand freedom of movement for all people.
We believe that workers should be able to freely migrate between countries to seek employment without restrictive immigration controls. We believe then that the government must demilitarize the border, end all immigrant detention and deportations, grant immediate amnesty for all immigrants regardless of current immigration status, and abolish oppressive institutions such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
4. We demand equality for all oppressed peoples.
We believe that the capitalist controlled government of the United States uses its domestic enforcement agencies to carry out its program of oppression against non-white people, women, queer people, the poor, and other marginalized communities to divide the working class and prevent the recognition of our shared interests. We believe that a just society must recognize the equality between all people, and that systems meant to divide us must be torn down!
5. We demand an immediate end to American imperialism abroad.
We believe that the various conflicts which exist around the world stem directly from the desire of the international billionaire class and the governments that serve them to advance their financial interests without regard for our lives and livelihoods. We want an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, an end to military and economic aid, and weapons sales to Israel, for our troops to be brought back home, a substantial reduction in the U.S. military budget, and for that money to be used to the benefit of working people.
It is easy to arrive at truthful and moral positions. It is much harder to build political power, and put those beliefs into practice. So while the first five points of unity cover our chapter's goals and principals, the last five focus on our organizations strategy for building a grassroots movement, and creating a better, more just tomorrow.
6. We Will Be The Party.
Middle Georgia DSA built the largest activist organization in our region because of things only DSA can do, not in spite of them. Our public reach, unapologetically anti-capitalist messaging, direct action, and ability to empower working people to shape the course of their communities now give us the unique potential to build a mass party.
7. We Will Be a Mass Party, with Mass Democracy.
Our organizational structures will reflect the direct democracy we wish to see in our governments. Only true, bottom-up member buy-in within robust democratic mechanisms can empower working people to shape the course of our history.
8. We Will Build to Win, and Win to Build.
Our victories today are only as good as the battlefields they open tomorrow. Our battlefields are only as good as the victories they beget. We must prioritize organizing to win victories that empower the working class, enable mass participation and recruitment into the party, and build the power for even bigger wins.
9. We Will Do All That It Takes.
Only a multifaceted strategy wielding state power, strike power, and street power together can beat the ruling class permanently. Leave nothing on the table!
We will seize state power, mobilize aligned unions, build new unions where there are none, and create our own power structures through mutual aid and community defense programs.
10. We Believe In A Brighter Future.
All decisions and analysis must start from our fundamental reality: the existential threat of the climate crisis, the imminent rise of fascist power, and the exponentially growing wealth inequality between the working and ruling class. Urgency is not optional.
We believe that a united working class can build a society that places human needs above the pursuit of profit—that our solidarity can overcome the challenges before us—for we are the working class, and we own the future!
